Car Parking at St Helens is free and unlimited in time in the car park on the green. There is a charge for parking on St Helens Beach, currently £1.00 per hour. Bring your blue badge if you have one. Car parking is free and of unlimited time at Quarr Abbey.
Are available both on the beach and on St Helens Green. Both have accessible toilets. Please bring your radar key for the accessible toilets. St Helens community centre, where most workshops are held, also has an accessible toilet. Accessible toilets are available at Quarr Abbey.
St Helens has a café in the general store as well as selling a selection of pies, sandwiches and cakes to take out (nice coffee!) The greens can be used for picnic; there are some benches on some areas of the greens. The pub also serves food. Both the café and pub have free Wi-Fi. There are 2 restaurants on the green and Baywatch on the Beach…..on the beach! There is a HUGE Tesco’s just 3 miles away. Quarr Abbey has a café and areas for picnics.
N.B. The pub and the General store are not especially accessible. The general store is more accessible, the aisles are narrow and may not be suitable for all wheelchairs, but there are no steps! The pub has some steps.
Dowsing, Walking & Accessibility
If you are coming on a dowsing workshop, it will involve walking, no matter what the weather. We have tried very hard very hard to make dowsing workshops accessible. In our opinion all sites visited are wheelchair and disability scooter friendly; they have been carefully selected with accessibility in mind. But please don’t take our word for it, As stated in the T &C’s, please contact us to verify it is accessible to YOU, especially if you are not in a wheelchair but experience difficulty walking!
The Earth Energies Workshop has the greater amount of walking. The distance from Quarr Abbey to Binstead Church and return is 1½ miles. If you are unable to walk very far then you can park, free of charge at Binstead church, and then drive to onto Quarr. Parking is limited at the church, and access is via a narrow lane, please be considerate to the less able and other church users. There are no toilets at the church.
The walk from Quarr Abbey to the church is on paths and is reasonably level. It is accessible for wheelchairs, although the short stretch of coastal path used can be muddy and is narrower, all paths are gravelled. The brothers at Quarr work with disabled groups so special effort has been made to make their paths wide and accessible.
The beach at St Helens is a 0.6ml walk from the free car park on the green (1.2 ml return trip), but please be advised the road is steep on return. There is a car park on the beach @£1.00 per hour (at time of writing) Bring your blue badge if you have one! There is also a National trust carpark on the Duver behind Baywatch on the Beach café.
The promenade at St Helens beach is level and accessible, but the road behind is unmade, except for the disabled parking area which is made up & level. There are benches and picnic tables each with a BBQ slab, on the green behind the old church tower which is adjacent to the disabled car park. I can assist persons unable to access the beach for this brief workshop activity; it will not prevent you gaining full knowledge. It is hoped to end the morning session of the Earth Energies workshop at the beach, but timing is subject to tides. The carpark on the Green is best all round for the workshop. Time at the beach will be 1hr or less, unless you choose to stay for lunch at Baywatch café.
Dowse Your House for Health has considerably less walking. A short walk to St Helens Green on day one, and a walk to the Ley at Quarr on day two (which I estimate at a scant ½ mile each way). The brothers at Quarr work with disabled groups so special effort has been made to make the paths wide and accessible. There is a bench fairly near the ley.
There is no such thing as the ‘wrong’ weather, only the wrong clothing. Please come suitably dressed and prepared for all weather eventualities, hot, cold or wet! Come rain, come shine we will go ahead unless it is unsafe to do so!
There are 2 ferry companies and Hover travel. Wight link Portsmouth to Ryde is your nearest link.
Where to Stay
The Ryde/St Helens/Sandown/Lake areas are the most convenient places to stay for your workshop.
Connect direct to booking.com TOP RIGHT on this page! I have added this facility for you as the accommodation offered is competitively priced, and often no deposit and free cancellation right up until 24 hours before you travel.
YOU must check this when booking. This is a courtesy service for Wight Weekend customers, we are NOT associated with booking.com in any way
There is also a wealth of information on the Visit Isle of Wight tourist information website. There are links to Transport, buses, ferries, accommodation, attractions, & things to do.
I have accreditation which is your assurance that your workshop has robust content, which has been verified by IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine.) When you accredit you have achieve a standard recognised by insurance companies.
Many people choose not to complete the assignment, because they don’t need validation, they are not starting a business for example. That is your choice; the validation is included in the price.
Validation entitles you to register with IPHM, advertise on their website, get liability insurance if you need it for business purposes, and have the support and backing of the IPHM organisation. I look to PASS assignments, which are practical and designed to enhance and improve your dowsing skill, NOT to fail them. More info given on your workshop!
